El Director de Regatas, Iain Murray, al que se le ha asignado el análisis de las circunstancias que rodean los hechos del vuelco dice que las consultas con todos los interesados están ya llevándose a cabo.

Murray ha organizado una reunión formal el martes en San Francisco con los cuatro equipos que compiten en el Verano de la Vela – ORACLE TEAM USA, Artemis Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand y Luna Rossa Challenge –.

El Director Regatas, Iain Murray, llevará a cabo un análisis de los eventos que rodean el vuelco del primer AC72 del Artemis Racing y la trágica muerte del tripulante Andrew Simpson.

Durante un entrenamiento en la bahía de San Francisco ayer, el Artemis Racing volcó con un viento de entre 18 y 20 nudos. El barco se partió y Simpson, de 36 años, se quedó atrapado debajo.

Tributes from around the world are pouring in for British Olympic hero and double Olympic medalist Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, who was tragically killed when Artemis Racing team’s AC72 capsized on San Francisco Bay on Thursday afternoon.

Simpson had competed at the highest levels of sailing, winning Olympic Gold and Silver medals with skipper Iain Percy in the Star class in back-to-back Olympics.

Artemis Racing CEO Paul Cayard addressed the media this afternoon at the team base in Alameda and said the following regarding the capsize of the team’s first AC72 and loss of crewman Andrew Simpson:

“Our prayers are with Andrew Simpson’s family, his wife and kids, and also the rest of my teammates. It’s a shocking experience to go through, and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody’s well being.
