34th America´s Cup: Quotes of the Day
Posted on 17 November 2011
Yann Guichard, Energy Team, after a winning performance for the French crew:

Dean Barker, Emirates Team New Zealand, very happy to have come second despite some major gear trouble:
"It was anything but straightforward for us. We had a jammer issue, the gennaker halyard wasn't holding. When you have a problem like that, you have that issue all day. The guys did an amazing job dealing with it around the course. We were probably thinking about boathandling too much and not enough about tactics because of that. So we're very happy to come in second. In this format it's good to be in the top three."
James Spithill, ORACLE Racing Spithill, on the comeback trail after some poor starts:
"We struggled off the start line, broke the start twice, found ourselves in last place twice around the first mark. Something we've been focused on in training is coming from behind, and that wasn't my game plan today, but we certainly gave ourselves a chance to put that into my play. Very ordinary starting from me. We had every light going off on the boat, OCS, penalties. It felt like Christmas had come early, just without the presents."
Charlie Ogletree, China Team, doing well when it counted most:
"We made a lot of errors in boathandling. If the top teams with more practice gain a boatlength at every manoeuvre, that's a lot of distance by the end of the race. But we had a good result in the long race, which is the back-up race for Sunday if that doesn't work out, so that was our main focus for the day and good to do well there. Our starts were good, and we made some good manoeuvres too. It's just that there were some key situations where it really fell apart."
Chris Draper, Team Korea:
"The first two races were really good, I think we were in 2nd overall after those two. And we started pretty well in the third. We thought we were out of there like a robber's dog, but got pickled up at the leeward gate, got caught up with Oracle. Then we got back in the race. But I made a bad decision, trying to be a bit greedy."
Chris Draper, Team Korea, impressed with Energy Team's improvements:
"Energy Team are the fastest boat on the water right now. Seriously quick upwind, and pretty good downwind. Yann is doing a good job and they've got some nice looking sails too."
Pierre Pennec, skipper, Aleph:
"I didn't manage very good starts today. But we did make some good progress with our boatspeed from the first to the last race and found some fast settings. That was a positive point. But we still need to improve our boathandling, particularly when we're hoisting the gennaker so we can make a better job of deploying the sail at the top mark."
Vasilij Zbogar, Green Comm Racing:
"We've got the feeling we can keep up with the others now, where in Cascais and Plymouth we felt we didn't have the speed to do that. We showed in the last race we can win a race. We didn't quite win because we are still making small errors, but this result shows we are improving. It really helps the spirit of the team, and everyone in the team is very happy right now."
Terry Hutchinson, Artemis Racing:
"Overall it was a hard day, but it was good the way we battled as it would have been easier to go backwards. It is about doing things consistently and work through the process."
Chris Draper, Team Korea, impressed with Energy Team's improvements:
"Energy Team are the fastest boat on the water right now. Seriously quick upwind, and pretty good downwind. Yann is doing a good job and they've got some nice looking sails too."
Darren Bundock, ORACLE Racing Spithill, ready to get into match racing for the first time:
"I haven't done match racing at all before, but in the last few days I had James Spithill throwing me around and giving me a hard time, and he has taught me a few tricks that I hope will pay off."
